Pineapple Valley World Cup – 14 June – 19 July
The Pineapple Valley World Cup is a six-week team golf competition inspired by international matchplay formats, running alongside the FIFA World Cup. Teams of two represent a country of their choice and compete across four rounds, combining an opening draw, flexible matchplay, and a final day of matches.
Designed to be both competitive and social, the tournament brings together members and guests in a relaxed setting, with all teams staying involved throughout. The season concludes with a final day, followed by a BBQ dinner and prize presentation.

Who can participate?
The tournament is open to Pineapple Valley members and regular guests. Teams consist of two players.
How are teams formed?
You enter as a pair and choose a country to represent. Any country is allowed, whether they participate in the FIFA World Cup or not. In case of duplicates, teams will be assigned (e.g. Thailand A, Thailand B).
What format is played?
All matches are played in a 4-Ball Better Ball (Net) format, allowing players of different skill levels to compete fairly. Except for the opening round, which will be based on a combined Net Strokeplay score.
4 Ball Better Ball is a team format where :
- Two players form a team
- Each player plays their own ball for the entire hole
- At the end of each hole, the best score (“better ball”) between the two teammates counts as the team score.
How are matches scheduled?
- Opening Day and Finals Day are centrally organized at the club, on 14 June and 19 July respectively
- Rounds 2 and 3 are flexible
- Teams are responsible for arranging a mutually convenient tee time within the given date window
- Round 2: between 15-30 June
- Round 3: between 1-18 July
- Teams must send the result of each round to the tournament committee within the day of the round
How many matches will we play?
Each team is guaranteed exactly 4 matches throughout the tournament.
Example: How it works with 16 teams
- Opening Day (Round 1):
All 16 teams will compete and be ranked from 1 to 16 based on their performance. The format for this round will be the combined Net Strokeplay score of both teammates.
At the conclusion of this opening round, a provisional leaderboard will be established, ranking teams from best to worst based on their total net score. As per stroke play principles, the lower the score, the better the ranking.
- Split into brackets:
- Top 8 teams → Cup bracket (playing for 1st place)
- Bottom 8 teams → Plate bracket (playing for 9th place)
- Round 2:
Knockout matches (e.g. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.) - Round 3:
Winners and losers of round 2 continue within their bracket to determine final positions - Final Day (Round 4):
All teams play a final match to determine their exact ranking (1st–16th)
Example: How it works with 12 teams
- Opening Day (Round 1):
All 12teams play and are ranked from 1 to 12 based on their score - Split into groups:
- Top 4 → Cup Group (playing for 1st–4th)
- Middle 4 → Shield Group (playing for 5th–8th)
- Bottom 4 → Plate Group (playing for 9th–12th)
- Rounds 2–4:
- Each group plays a round-robin format
- Every team plays 3 additional matches within their group
- Final result:
- Final rankings are determined within each group
- Positions decided: 1st–12th overall
This ensures every team plays all 4 matches, regardless of results and number of teams. Format is subject to change by the tournament committee based on number of teams. An even number of teams is required.
What happens on Opening Day?
On Opening Day, Sunday 14 June, all teams gather for the draw, a light brunch and the first round of golf.
Agenda:
11.00 am: Light welcome brunch and World Cup-style draw
01.00 pm: Start of Round 1 with tee times every 10 minutes.
Based on the scores of the day, teams are ranked and seeded for the next round.
What happens on Finals day?
Finals Day, Sunday 19 July, coincides with the final of the FIFA World Cup. Final matches are played in a centralised format, with the last golf round of the day being for 1st and 2nd place. Followed by a BBQ dinner and prize presentation.

11.30 am: Welcome
1.00 pm: Final rounds
7.00 pm: BBQ and prize presentation
What if we cannot agree on a date for our match?
Teams are expected to make reasonable efforts to schedule their match within the allotted window.
If no agreement can be reached, the result will be determined by a lucky draw.
What if a player is unavailable for a match?
If one player cannot attend a match, a replacement player may be allowed, subject to prior approval by the tournament committee. The replacement should be of a comparable handicap level to ensure fair play.
What happens if both teams cannot play within the timeframe?
If a match cannot be completed within the designated period, the outcome will be decided by lucky draw, unless otherwise determined by the tournament committee.
